Bowen is a soft tissue remedial therapy using small rolling movements over muscles, tendons and ligaments to create a signal to the brain to initiate the natural healing response within the body. Unique breaks are incorporated into the treatment where you are left to rest and allow the body to process these signals. It can be carried out through light clothing. No adjustment or manipulation is used.
Reflexology uses the feet to treat the whole body. The feet are a map of the body and by using manipulation and pressure to certain points, known as reflex points, can re-tune the body and bring it back into balance by stimulating the body’s own healing process.
Massage is the manipulation of the soft tissue by the hands for the promotion and restoration of health. Increasing oxygen flow in the blood and releasing toxins from the muscles, muscle stiffness and fatigue are reduced while the lymphatic system is stimulated, increasing the removal of waste products and boosting immunity.
Holistic / Swedish Massage
Holistic / Swedish massage is a relaxing and stimulating massage, increasing the body’s natural endorphins, improving sleep and restoring balance within the body.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage works on the deeper layers of the muscle tissue, using slower strokes and deeper pressure to release chronic patterns of tension by incorporating techniques of stretching, friction and trigger point work to help alleviate the stress and tension which builds up from over use or over exertion.
Hot (& Cold) Stone Massage
Hot (&Cold) stone massage uses massage strokes combined with heated stones to give a deep, relaxing treatment, reducing stress, fatigue and tension. Cold stones can also be used during treatment to give added benefits, relieving orbital and sinus congestion and stimulate the nervous system.
Indian Head Massage
Indian Head Massage is given to a client seated and with a towel wrapped around them. The aim is to release stress that has built in the muscles of the head, face, neck and shoulders. Improving circulation, lymphatic drainage, relieves headaches, sinusitis and promotes sleep.
Pregnancy massage can be carried out seated in a chair or lying on your side on the couch for yours and baby’s comfort. This can be received any time after the first trimester of your pregnancy.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Manual lymphatic drainage is a gentle massage intended to stimulate the lymphatic system to remove congestion within the body.
What to expect on your visit
Before any initial treatment a full consultation will be carried out. Helen will ask questions regarding your general health, so please be prepared to answer them. Towels will be used to cover the areas of the body not being worked on.
Various types of massage mediums are available to use depending on your needs.
After your treatment, to ensure you gain maximum benefit the following is recommended:
- Drink plenty of water to flush out toxins
- Try to avoid any stimulants for a period of 24 hours
- Avoid eating a heavy meal
- Avoid strenuous exercise or activities
- Avoid heavy lifting
- Try to rest for the remainder of the day
Following the treatment you may experience cold-like symptoms, increased sweating, thirst and urination, and feeling tired or emotional. Sometimes physical symptoms can appear to be aggravated before they get better.
